Aborigines have been using Tea Tree for centuries in order to treat a variety of ailments. In 1923, A.R. Penfold conducted a study of Tea Tree and found that it was a powerful antiseptic. In fact it was considered so effective that the Australian military issued Tea Tree Oil in the first-aid kits of soldiers during World War II.
When modern scientists tested the oil from the Melaleuca Alternifolia leaves, they discovered that it contained over 100 different chemical compounds. These compounds are what make Tea Tree Oil so versatile and able to act as an antibacterial, antifungal, antiseptic, and detoxifying agent.
